Micaela Ramos

Hey! My name’s Micaela, but my friends call me Mica, and I’m a performer based in New York City. I'm originally from Southern California, but I moved to pursue my education at NYU Steinhardt, where I'm getting my degree in Vocal Performance: Musical Theater. The move was definitely scary at first—big city, new people, and so much walking—but I’m so glad I took the leap.
I grew up in Long Beach, a city full of culture and music. My hometown gave me so many opportunities to experiment as a musician and soak in different styles and genres. My family only added to that—listening to Led Zeppelin and KISS with my dad, Gwen Stefani and Weezer with my mom, and pretty much everything in between with my two sisters. Thankfully, I grew up in a very musical household, so it was pretty much inevitable that I'd fall in love with performing.
Coming from a blended Mexican-Puerto Rican family, my culture and identity are a huge part of who I am. As a proud Latina, I carry that with me in everything I do. Representation in the arts is incredibly important to me—I want our stories told, our faces seen, and our voices heard, especially in the theater world. I hope to be part of that movement and an inspiration for other young Latina musicians working towards their goals.
Musically, I’ve trained in sight-singing, classical, jazz, R&B, and pop-rock. Lately, I’ve been getting really into transcribing music, which is cool once your get past the pain! I also value commitment, loyalty, and planning—I take pride in being as dependable as possible. And as much as I love performing, I equally love collaborating with others. There’s nothing better than creating something special with people who are just as passionate as you are.
When I'm not in class or rehearsals, you can usually find me out exploring the city with my friends, watching crime documentaries, or making tacos with my roommate (which, in our apartment, is a sacred ritual). Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
